For my visual essay project, my topic was anti war. I narrowed this topic down to be against the war on terror. This is an ongoing war in both Iraq and Afghanistan that are unnecessary and are killing innocent men and women on both sides. George W. Bush sent these troops over seas after the 9/11 attack. The goal was to end terrorism and make these countries better and we have mostly succeeded in this effort. Now we need to get these troops back and stop anymore possible deaths.
In my visual essay, I used 20 hand picked photos that had to do with my claim. These photos were put in no specific order but each have a specific reason for being there. Three of them were really important and went along with my claim very well. My most important of the 3 was picture number 11. It was an image of a man/woman wearing a black hood and a white mask with red tear drops on it, holding a sign saying,"Iraq: 100,000+, U.S: 2,300+, how many more?" These numbers represented the number of casualties on each side of this war and the effects that they cause to people. It gives people a view on the physical and emotional toll the war is taking and it's basically wanting to know how many more people need to die before it is over. Another important picture is number 12. This shows an anti war on terror protest where a woman is holding up a sign that says, "Bush is more evil than Bin Laden." This image shows how people feel about the war and how they feel about Bush, the man who started it. I also used this image for comic relief. This picture says that Bush is evil, and many people hate Bush whether the are republican or democratic so I thought that it would make people laugh. My 3rd important image is picture number 4. It is a picture stating that War is good for few and bad for most. This is talking about how corrupt politicians are the few that war is good for and the most that it is bad for is the rest of the U.S. These images are important to my project, because they get right to the point and explain the main idea of my essay.
The song is another important part of the visual essay. It makes it more entertaining and supports the claim if you choose the right song. My song for my visual essay is Where is the Love by The Black Eyed Peas. I chose this song, because was and is a popular song and it had to do with anti war and terrorist issues. It speaks the truth and goes exactly with my visual essay claim. This song connects with the audience, because it is a popular song and many people agree with the song as well as my claim. This Visual essay is geared towards democrats and/or those who are against the current war effort in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
