A book that I have read that was banned at some time or another was "My Brother Sam Is Dead." I read the Book when I was in 6th grade as a social studies assignmet. The book was on the top 10 books banned in America in 1996, long before I had read it.
"My Brother Sam Is Dead" was banned in the United States because it used profanity, contained excessive violence, mentions alcohol consumption and Contains unpatriotic views of the American Revolution. Some examples of these things were when Betsy Read yells, "you little bastard." The excessive violence was how most of the book took place. The alcohol consumption has to do with the Meeker's owning a tavern. The Showing of unpatriotic views where the Meeker's being Anglican's.
The opposing views said that they wanted the book to have a realistic theme with the American Revolution. The violence showed what happened during the american revolution. Their tavern that showed old and young drinking were realistic. The unpatriotism was all said and fought against by saying that anyone would say that type of stuff if they were in that situation.
